The Carolina Panthers trade down with the Jets in the first round

Blogged under Big Panther News,Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report by dawgpounded on Saturday 28 April 2007 at 1:50 pm

The Panthers have traded their #1 pick (#14) and their 6th rounder (#199) to the New York Jets for the Jets #1 pick (#25), their 2nd round pick (#59) and the Jets 5th rounder (#164).  The Jets used the pick in the first round to select CB Darrelle Revis.

The Carolina Panthers re-sign TE Michael Gaines

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Monday 23 April 2007 at 2:37 pm

The Panthers have re-signed Michael Gaines to a 1-year contract.  He played in all 16 games (9 starts) for the Panthers last season and he caught 15 passes for 146 yards (9.7 avg).  He also returned 2 kickoffs for 32 yards (16.0 avg).  His role in the offense will expand unless the Panthers use their first round pick on Greg Olson.

The Carolina Panthers re-sign WR Drew Carter

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Thursday 19 April 2007 at 7:00 am

The Panthers have re-signed WR Drew Carter to a much deserved 1-year contract.  He will likely serve as the #3 wideout for the Panthers again this season.  He played in 14 games last season (3 starts) and he caught 28 passes for 357 yards (12.8 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 18 yards (9.0 ypc).  Look for him to be even better in 2007 than he was in 2006 for the Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers are on the clock………….

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report by dawgpounded on Sunday 15 April 2007 at 1:41 pm

I have conducted a complete 7 round draft for every team in the NFL.  If you want to see what I have projected for any other team in the NFL, click on the team name in the right hand margin and go to the team’s Draft Report page if you don’t see the article on the front page of the site.  This was a lot of work so I hope you enjoy it.

The Panthers are looking to take the best player available at all of their picks later this month.  With that in mind, here is who I project the Panthers to draft:

1. (14)  Reggie Nelson, S, Florida

2. (45)  Brandon Siler, MLB, Florida

3. (83)  Josh Beckman, OG, Boston College

4. (118)  Clark Harris, TE, Rutgers

5. (155)  Herbert Taylor, OT, TCU

6. (191)  D’Juan Woods, WR, Oklahoma State

7. (226)  Matt Toeaina, DT, Oregon

Reggie Nelson and Brandon Siler would fill two large needs on the Panthers defense and probably would both be starters from Day #1.  Clark Harris could help the Panthers offense as they might finally have a TE that they will throw the football to.

The Carolina Panthers re-sign DT Kindal Moorehead

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Thursday 12 April 2007 at 3:13 pm

The Carolina Panthers have re-signed Kindal Moorehead.  He played in 16 games last season for the Panthers and he made 13 tackles and registered 1/2 a sack.  Over his four years with the Panthers he has played in 59 games and he’s made 84 tackles, has 7.5 sacks, defensed 7 passes, forced a fumble and recovered 3 fumbles.  Moorehead provides good depth on the D-Line for the Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers sign QB David Carr to a 2-year contract

Blogged under Big Panther News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by dawgpounded on Saturday 7 April 2007 at 9:13 am

The Panthers have signed David Carr to be their new backup QB.  Jake Delhomme better perform better this season or Carr will take his starting job away from him.  Carr played in all 16 games for the Houston Texans last season and he completed 302 of 442 passes (68.3%) for 2,767 yards with 11 TD passes and 12 interceptions (82.1 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 53 times for 195 yards (3.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  This was a good move for the Panthers as it should light a fire under Jake Delhomme’s behind.

The Carolina Panthers re-sign safety Nate Salley

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Friday 6 April 2007 at 12:14 pm

The Panthers have re-signed safety Nate Salley to a 1-year contract.  He only played in 8 games last season and he only made 4 tackles.  He’s going to have to step up his game if he wants to remain in the NFL.
