2. (45) Dwayne Jarrett
The Panthers felt that they wanted to replace Keyshawn Johnson at receiver and lo and behold Dwayne Jarrett dropped to them in the 2nd round. Jarrett was one of the best WRs in college football the last three years at USC. Every time the games got big for USC, Jarrett was right there making big plays for them. He is a big guy at 6’4″, 215 pounds but he’s a little on the slower side at 4.5 in the 40. But straight out speed doesn’t matter so much for a big guy like him that can just reach up and snatch the ball out of the air against smaller cornerbacks. At USC Jarrett played in 38 games (32 starts) and he caught 216 passes for 3,138 yards (14.5 avg) with 41 TD grabs. The Panthers got a steal getting Jarrett in the 2nd round. Teaming him with Steve Smith will give Jake Delhomme or David Carr a nice set of WRs to throw to.
