The Panthers put up one hell of a fight against the Browns yesterday in Cleveland.  Jimmy Clausen hit Brandon LaFell with a pass at the Browns’ 25-yard line with 5 seconds left to play setting up a John Kasay 42-yard field goal attempt.  The ball hit the left upright as time expired giving the Panthers a heartbreaking loss.  Jimmy Clausen was decent in this game as he completed 16 of 28 passes for 195 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Johnathan Stewart was back with a vengeance for the Browns in this game as he carried the ball 12 times for 98 yards (8.2 ypc).  Mike Goodson had another good game for the Panthers yesterday as he carried the ball 14 times for 55 yards (3.9 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 8 passes for 81 yards (10.1 avg).  WR Brandon LaFell (2 rec, 37 yards) and TE Dante Rosario (3 rec, 33 yards) also pitched in for the Panthers on offense.  The Panthers finished up with 151 yards rushing on 27 carries (5.6 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 28 passes for 175 yards in this game.

The Panthers flat out got punched repeatedly in the mouth by the Saints yesterday.  Matt Moore, Jonathan Stewart and Tyrell Sutton got knocked out of this game by the Saints’ D which cripped the offense.  Moore started at QB for the Panthers and he completed 3 of 6 passes for 13 yards before leaving the game.  Jimmy Clausen replaced Moore in the game and he was awful as usual.  Clausen completed 8 of 18 passes for 47 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT that was returned 24 yards for a TD by Saints’ CB Jabari Greer.  Clausen also carried the ball 1 time for 11 yards before getting yanked from the game due to performance.  Tony Pike finished up the game at QB for the Panthers and he completed 6 of 12 passes for 47 yards.  Tyrell Sutton led the way on the ground for the Panthers with 41 yards rushing on 7 carries (5.9 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 15 yards (5.0 avg).  Jonathan Stewart carried the ball 5 times for 30 yards (6.0 ypc) before leaving the game with a concussion.  Mike Goodson finished up this game at RB by rushing for 29 yards on 9 carries (3.2 ypc).  He also caught 3 passes for 18 yards (6.0 avg) in this game.  The Panthers finished up with 127 yards rushing on 24 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 36 passes for 68 yards as they only had possession of the football for 25:19.

The Panthers broke the seal winning their first game of the year today by being ball hogs on offense while playing solid defense.  Matt Moore played a really good game for the Panthers today.  He completed 28 of 41 passes for 308 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT (it was returned 31-yards for a TD by DT Ray McDonald).  DeAngelo Williams wasn’t at his best today as he carried the ball 19 times for 44 yards (2.3 ypc).  He also caught 4 passes for 19 yards (4.8 avg) in this game.  Jonathan Stewart also found running room hard to find today as he carried the ball 14 times for only 29 yards (2.1 ypc).  Rookie WRs David Gettis (8 rec, 125 yards, 2 TD catches) and Brandon LaFell (6 rec, 91 yards) had breakout games for the Panthers today.  Steve Smith (4 rec, 50 yards) and Dante Rosario (5 rec, 28 yards) also pitched in for the Panthers in the passing game today.  The Panthers finished up with 76 yards rushing on 34 carries (2.2 ypc) and they also completed 28 of 41 passes for 303 yards as they had possession of the ball for 36:05 today.

Linebacker James Anderson led the way for the D with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 2 passes defensed.  But it was cornerback Richard Marshall who made the biggest impact for the defense today when he intercepted a David Carr pass late in the fourth quarter to set up John Kasay’s game winning field goal.  Marshall also had 6 tackles and 1 pass defensed today.  The 49ers finished up with 99 yards rushing on 22 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 32 passes for 183 yards.  The Panthers are now 1-5 on the year.

The Panthers were down 17-0 before they could blink an eye in this game and that’s way too much for them to overcome with their lousy offense.  Jimmy Clausen was pathetic once again as he completed 9 of 22 passes for 61 yards with 1 pickoff and 3 fumbles (the Panthers didn’t lose any of them).  Matt Moore finished out this game and he stunk too as he completed 5 of 10 passes for 35 yards with 2 INTs.  DeAngelo Williams carried the ball 12 times for 51 yards (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 8 yards (2.7 avg).  Jonathan Stewart pitched in with 30 yards rushing on 8 carries (3.8 ypc) in this game.  Rookie WR David Gettis (3 rec, 32 yards) and TE Jeff King (3 rec, 20 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Panthers today.  The Panthers finished up with 85 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 32 passes for 62 yards.

LBs Dan Connor (11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), Jon Beason (10 tackles) and James Anderson (8 tackles, 1/2 a sack and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Panthers ’ D in this game.  Safety Charles Godfrey, DE Ed Johnson, DE Everette Brown and rookie safety Jordan Pugh each had 1 interception apiece for the Panthers in this game.  The Bears finished up with 218 yards rushing on 42 carries (5.2 ypc) and they also completed 8 of 19 passes for 29 yards.  The Panthers are now 0-5 on the year.

The Panthers were actually winning this game up until only 3:55 was left in the game when John Carney of the Saints hit the game winning field goal.  Jimmy Clausen had his best game so far as he completed 11 of 21 passes for 146 yards with 1 TD pass.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 11 yards (5.5 ypc) in this game.  DeAngelo Williams led the way for the Panthers on the ground in this game with 86 yards rushing on 13 carries (6.6 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 1 pass for 14 yards.  Jonathan Stewart only rushed for 21 yards on 7 carries (3.0 ypc) but he also caught 1 pass that went for a 55-yard TD.  The Panthers finished up with 118 yards rushing on 23 carries (5.1 ypc) and they also completed 11 of 21 passes for 133 yards.

OLB James Anderson was a absolute beast for the Panthers in this game with 16 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 2 fumble recoveries.  CBs Richard Marshall (10 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and Chris Gamble (9 tackles, 1 pass defensed) also had big games on D for the Saints yesterday.  The Saints finished up with 121 yards rushing on 29 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 33 of 48 passes for 262 yards in this game.  The Panthers are now 0-4 on the year.

Cincinnati Bengals 20, Carolina Panthers 7

The Panthers were awful on offense yesterday as they only had possession of the ball for 23:38 and it cost them this game because the D played pretty well.  Jimmy Clausen looked like a deer in headlights in his first NFL start.  He completed 16 of 33 passes for 188 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 6 times for 10 yards (1.7 ypc) and he also lost two fumbles.  DeAngelo Williams (10 carries, 64 yards) and Jonathan Stewart (8 carries, 13 yards, TD) didn’t give the Panthers much in the way of ground support.  RB Mike Goodson was the top receiver for the Panthers in this game with 4 grabs for 47 yards (11.8 avg).  The Panthers finished up with 87 yards rushing on 24 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 33 passes for 180 yards.

The Panthers’ D didn’t play that bad as the Bengals had a lot of short fields and they bogarted the football.  Safety Charles Godfrey led the way for the Panthers in this game with 11 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception (38 yard return). LBs James Anderson (9 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 QB hit) and Jon Beason (9 tackles, 1 pass defensed) also had solid games for the Panthers yesterday.  CB Captain Munnerlyn pitched in with a interception in this game.  The Bengals finished up with 120 yards rushing on 37 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 37 passes for 185 yards.  The Panthers are now 0-3 on the year.
